Protection & renovation and environmental design of Fashi district

The planning area of the city of Quanzhou is part of a UNESCO world cultural heritage site and of historical and cultural importance. Fashi District is located at the joint of East Sea Group and the current downtown in Quanzhou, the most concentrated point of Jiangkou area in Quanzhou historical sites protection planning of Maritime Silk Road, the historic business street. In history there have been frequent maritime business exchanges between Quanzhou and foreign countries, which were pregnant with the culture characteristics based on the maritime business, and left a large number of cultural heritage. There are many relics of the maritime business exchanges in Quanzhou Jiangkou, which are the historical evidence of “Maritime Silk Road”, are of extremely important value for protection. Fashi District is the fairly striking and centralized area among “Marine Silk Road” relics in Jiangkou. Fashi District hold the Jinjiang seaport, a hub of land-water transportation in ancient Quanzhou city and seaport, one of three gulfs and 12 harbors in Quanzhou, where in Song and Yuan Dynasties shipping and shipbuilding industry are quite flourishing.

Therefore, there still remained quite many historical sites. As a result of the impact of historical changes in Ming and Qing dynasty, a few traditional buildings remained but damaged, so the significance of being historical sites is much more than being construction unit to be protected.
