Marte.Marte Lecture

Marte.Marte architects of Austria was founded in 1993 by the brothers Bernhard and Stefan Marte. A distinguishing feature of their monolithic architecture is the use of simple geometric forms in which the external expression always results from the internal spatial composition.

Most of their projects are located in the Vorarlberg region where their work is distinctive for the use of industrial materials, often raw concrete, which highlights the spatial experience of the buildings.

In addition to a number of private projects the duo have built many buildings on a larger scale, such as the Diocesan Museum in Fresach, the burial chapel in Batschuns and a number of bridges in the Dornbirn area. In 2016 they presented a series of short films at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, titled “Appearing Sculptural”.
