Jiujiantang is one of the most coveted villa compounds in central Shanghai. Playze has been commissioned to renovate and extend one of the existing buildings into a house for three generations. The design aspiration is to create a contemporary reinterpretation of a traditional chinese family home. Thus the spatial sequence follows the typology of the traditional courtyard house and its organizational principles.
