Doyon Bookstore Huangyan is located on the banks of Yongning River in Huangyan District, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The main challenge of the design was to create a modern, recognizable and locally distinctive bookstore within a short construction period.
The design preserves the original building and wraps the whole building with white perforated panels to create a fresh architectural background. At the entrance, multiple "cloud gates" indiates the "Doyun Academy" and represents one of the bookstore's symbols.
The public area inside the bookstore takes the local fruit "Huangyan Orange" as the starting point, and uses orange and green as the main colors to create a dynamic dining area and a calm reading area. The more intimate, VIP-friendly Good Book Room features a wood grain and array of bookshelves as a backdrop to create a dignified atmosphere and fit the theme of "Millennium Yongning".
