Heron Lake

 Back to Projects list
Year
1996

This environmentally sensitive project is part of a master plan for a new residential community developed on Nuns’ Island designed around an existing forest and lake. Both the forest and the lake were preserved and highlighted in the project’s design by integrating pedestrian pathways to encourage low-intensity activities such as nature interpretation, bird watching and walking. A creek serves as a transition from the lake into a more urbanized area. Its design is very minimalist, featuring native plants and small animal habitats. The urban area features three basins that function as retention ponds for storm water management.
